About Tuomas Tuomitie

I got interested in building web sites back in the mid-nineties, when most pages still sported the default grey background. Usability wasn’t a hot topic back then, and having to change the text could easily mean firing up Photoshop (version 3). I remember opting to supply song lyrics not only in HTML, but also in a proprietary ClarisWorks format. Anyway, it was all new and exciting, and I guess those times set me on the path I’m still on.

After finishing my year in the Finnish army, I got accepted to Helia polytechnic (now Haaga-Helia university of applied sciences, though I dislike the term) to study business information technology. Web design was my main interest there, and I wrote a seminar paper on web site navigation, as well as my thesis on standards based design. I was lucky to get about eight months of valuable work experience under my belt as part of the team upgrading the site of the Finnish ministry of justice.

After graduating in the fall of 2008, I’m now looking to make web design a full time job. I’m building up my portfolio doing freelance work, and hoping some of my personal projects will make the cut, too. I understand the importance of web standards, and embrace them in my work. What comes to having a “signature look”, I don’t think I’m there yet - but I guess I tend to favor some nice thick textures in my designs. I feel that a hint of dirt somewhere on a page can make it all seem just a little more homey.

If you want to get in touch or have a question on anything at all, please use the form on my contact page.
